For those looking for a captivating crime, mystery novel Derek B. Miller’s ‘American by day’ will tick all of the boxes. Norwegian detective Sigrid Odegard who we previously met in Millers Norwegian by night, sets her sights to America to embark on a journey to find her missing brother. But when she arrives in Watertown, Massachusetts it is to the discovery that her brother is now a person of interest in an ongoing murder investigation.

American by Day is a blend of murder mystery and political awareness. Miller is unafraid to tackle gritty subjects such as police brutality and sexism while still being able to capture light-hearted humour. The novel is a quick but most definitely worthwhile read.
