Like mother like daughter

Beyonce and Jay-Z’s daughter Blue Ivy Carter has recently become an award-winning songwriter.

The seven-year-old won the Ashford and Simpson Songwriter’s Award at the Soul Train Awards over the weekend for co-writing her mother’s hit Brown Skin Girl.

Blue opens and closes the song with a soft vocal performance, followed by vocals from Saint Jhn, Wizkid and of course, Beyonce. The young star’s lyrics contribute to the message of the song which celebrates dark and brown-skinned women. The song could also be included in this weeks reveal of the Grammy nominations, which could earn the Blue her first Grammy nomination.

As expected the Carter family were unable to attend the awards due to their busy schedule, alike to many other artists who won awards on the night. Other winners included Chris Brown and Lizzo, and special honours were made to music icon Yolanda Adams and famous songwriters Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.
