Mooosic to your ears

We have all heard the talk that music can affect the way plants grow. But could the same be said for animals and the food they produce? Could the music played to cows affect their quality of milk?

Well, according to a selection of farmers, the music they play for their cows can indeed affect the way they produce milk. There have been studies at multiple institutions, including the University of Leicester in England, which showed that there was an increase in the amount of milk produced by cows who were played soft and soothing music. In fact, it was REM’s hit Everybody Hurts which had the best results, followed by Simon & Garfunkle’s Bridge Over Troubled Water.

From gentle rock to classical ballads, cows really seem to be responding to music. Even before these studies were carried out, farmers have sworn that a happy cow leads to a better product, and what better way to make your cow happy than to play it a few bangers!
