Plastic surgeon redefining beauty

Dr Anh Nguyen is aiming to redefine what beauty means. Nguyen is a body-positive advocate who believes that plastic surgery is not a matter of vanity, but regaining self-confidence. Nguyen brought together 40 of her women patients ranging from 18 years of age to 70 years old to show that beauty can come in all kinds of shapes and sizes. The women were photographed in the nude, painted with body paint, in lingerie, activewear and casual clothing.

Here are some of Nguyen’s case studies/models and why they participated:

Kelly is a 33-year-old mother of two. She had felt as though she had lost her identity after having kids and lost touch with who she was. This affected her relationship with her husband, and it depreciated her self-worth. Four months after a mummy makeover, she has regained her self-confidence, feels sexy, and is more than just a mum. The photo shoot is a way of expressing how far she has come as well as showing off her new found confidence.

Bec is a 39-year-old mother of five. She is a domestic abuse survivor. She refound love with her new husband but found it harder to refind self-love. Along with the continued support of her new husband, she underwent a mummy makeover eight months ago and is a new woman. She has been able to find the self-love that she had struggled with for so long, and cannot wait to celebrate her upcoming 40th birthday.

Rhiannon is a 21-year-old who had felt insecure about her nose since she was 14. Bullying in high school harshened the blows and upset Rhiannon whenever she looked in the mirror. Six months after rhinoplasty, Rhiannon’s self-esteem is higher than ever and has regained faith in self-love. The shoot embodies this for Rhiannon, and she is a massive advocate for building one another up collectively.
