Rapper TI blasted for attending daughters annual hymen check

American rapper TI has copped backlash from the public after admitting he goes with his daughter to a gynaecologist each year to check her hymen is “still intact.”

During a podcast released this week named Ladies Like Us, TI spoke about his parenting towards his 18-year-old daughter, Deyjah Harris, who has just begun her first year at college.

When asked if he had given his daughter the “sex talk”, the rapper discussed he has taken his daughter to the gynaecologist each year since she turned sixteen to check her Hymen had not been broken. Some people believe the Hymen, located at the opening of the vagina, remains intact until a woman has sex. Medical experts have debunked this belief and human rights organisations have called “virginity testing” unnecessary and harmful for women.

TI explained that each year he takes his daughter to be checked, usually the day following her birthday.

“Right after her birthday, we celebrate, then usually like the day after the party, she’s enjoying the gifts, I put a sticky note on the door: ‘Tomorrow. 9.30,’ ” he said.

The rapper included that his daughter’s gynaecologist explained a hymen can become stretched open from riding a bike, horseback riding or other physical activities.

“I say, ‘Look doc – she don’t ride no horses, she don’t ride no bikes, she don’t play no sports, man – just check the hymen, please, and give me back my results expeditiously,” he said.

“I will say, as of her 18th birthday, her hymen is still intact.”

TI’s remarks have since gone viral with many people concerned over the rappers controlling and inappropriate behaviour.

The rapper has not responded to the situation, though it has been observed that his daughter ‘liked’ several tweets that had criticised her father. One tweet read the situation as “disgusting, possessive and controlling.”
