SKY SPORTS HEADING TO PRIMETIME

Sports fans, rejoice! Sky has announced that from Monday Jan 13, 2020, the ‘Home of Sport’ will now host the best sports news in New Zealand from 6.30 pm on weekdays, on Sky Sport News and free-to-air on Prime.

“Kiwis will now be able to catch up with breaking news, athlete profiles, match results, stats and key plays from every possible code under the sun – with expert analysis delivered by one of the best sportscasting teams in the business,” said Tex Teixeira, Chief Content Officer.

“Sky Sport News @6.30pm will then be followed by Crowd Goes Wild for even deeper sports scrutiny plus the well-informed banter we’ve all come to love from Andrew Mulligan, James McOnie and team.”

Throughout the day there will be regular bulletins but come 6.30 pm all the sports news New Zealanders want and need will be covered on Sky Sport News, Prime and streamed live on Sky Sport Now and Sky Go. Viewers will also be able to catch up on demand.

Sky Sport has long committed to being everywhere to cover whatever happens – whether it’s Olympic or Commonwealth glory, test match rugby, world cricket, netball, swimming, darts, motor-racing and now a slew of emerging sports under the Sky Sport Next banner.

“Sky Sport News @6.30pm is launching at a great time for kiwi fans, with the Boxing Day test match and world-class tennis on the slate not to mention, golf, surfing and kicking off in late January – the Super Rugby season,” said Brian Hitchcock, head of production.

“Our in-house team and the CGW crew led by Ric Salizzo are great at what they do, and we’re looking forward to a superb 2020 of sports news.”

The decision to shift the timeslot from 7am has been under consideration for some time but has been kept under wraps until today.

This does mean that printed TV guides and schedules may be out of sync for the first couple weeks of 2020.  Viewers are advised to head to sky.co.nz and primetv.co.nz for up-to-date details.
