“SOME KID ATE MY LUNCH”

Kiwi social enterprise Eat My Lunch is to open a physical store in Auckland’s buzzing Britomart.

The company, which works on a ‘buy one, give one’ model, provides lunches to school children in need. According to their website, 1 in 4 Kiwi school children, or 290,000 kids, live in poverty. Every time a customer buys a meal from Eat My Lunch, a simple, nutritious school lunch is given to a child, consisting of a sandwich, salad, fruit, and a home-baked treat.

The new store is part of an expansion effort funded by a PledgeMe campaign selling shares in the company. So far, almost $400,000 has been raised of a minimum $675,000, with an upper limit goal of $2,000,000. In 2016, Eat My Lunch successfully crowdfunded $800,000, just a year after starting in the kitchen of the company’s founders.
