THE KING OF SPORTS RETURNS

teams of blue and yellow verse off in a game of beach polo

Summer is coming, and with it the exciting fusion of festive northern hemisphere traditions in casual Kiwi settings. One unmissable event is the Beach Polo, taking place at beaches around Auckland this December.

Polo originated in Persia during the fifth century, when guardsmen played it as a training game. No longer as violent but still exciting, this beach polo is a rare chance to see the game played on sand instead of the lush fields to which it’s usually linked.

Three matches will take place on three different beaches, highlighting the best of Auckland’s shores and horses. The first match is at Takapuna beach on the 7th, and the second at Papamoa on the 14th. The third is a January match, scheduled for the 18th.

Beach Polo NZ is the first beach polo series in the world. They’ve partnered with Sundown gin to bring a fresh, fun take to both horsesports and gin & tonics.

They offer corporate hosting options in addition to other packages. A beach booth booking is valid for 20 people and includes table service, a meet-and-greet, souvenir glassware, and a large picnic-style lunch.

Please note: Beach Polo NZ is a zero waste event, and a smoke free zone. It is not BYO.
