After publicly saying that she was done with the character, Kim Cattrall will appear in the last episode of the second season of ‘And Just Like That.’
The ‘Sex and the City’ reboot started with a somewhat mixed response from viewers, but everyone could agree that we all missed Samantha.
Cattrall played Public Relations extraordinaire Samantha Jones in the six original seasons of ‘Sex and the City,’ often as the show’s comic relief. She also starred in the two subsequent films in 2008 and 2010, but when the reboot was announced in early 2021, she decided that her time was up.
The news shocked show fans after the bitter public feud between Cattrall and co-star Sarah Jessica Parker. According to sources, Cattrall will appear in one scene: a phone call with Parker’s character, Carrie Bradshaw.
Filming of the scene took place in New York City on March 22nd, with the long-time costume designer for the series, Patricia Field, also dressing the character. It has been said that Cattrall filmed the sequence without seeing or talking to any of her co-stars or showrunner Michael Patrick King.
In the show’s last season, Samantha was mentioned but never seen. In one scene, Jones and Bradshaw exchange texts with each other. Jones was said to be living in London, and in the final scene of the series, Bradshaw arranges to reconcile with her whilst in Paris.
For fans of the show, this has been a long time coming. Samantha was severely missed in the first season, which has sparked hope that there could be a reconciliation between the stars in real life.
In 2016, Cattrall publicly announced that she had done her dash with the character and said a proposed script for a third film didn’t do her character justice. When doing press interviews for the last season of ‘And Just Like That,’ Sarah Jessica Parker and Michael Patrick King noted that no scenario would enable a return for Cattral as Samantha.
The second season of ‘And Just Like That’ will premiere on June 22nd, but Cattrall’s scene is not due to air until August.
