Starring Academy Award nominee Rachel Griffiths alongside Martin Henderson, Danielle Cormack, and Robbie Magasiva, Madam is a 10-part premium-funded drama comedy series coming to Three and Three Now this July.
Rachel plays McKenzie ‘Mack’ Leigh, a character inspired by Antonia Murphy ‘s real-life story. Faced with a philandering husband and a mountain of debt, she starts an ethical brothel in a small town in New Zealand to provide for her family.
This intriguing narrative is based on Antonia Murphy ‘s soon-to-be published memoir, which was inspired by New Zealand’s decriminalisation of sex work and her founding of an escort agency focused on protecting women’s legal rights, emotional well-being, and financial independence.
Madam is produced by Tavake and XYZ Films for Warner Bros. Discovery ANZ and Fifth Season, which will also distribute the show internationally.
The show was made in association with Te Puna Kairangi Premium Productions for the International Audiences Fund, NZ On Air, and the New Zealand Screen Production Rebate.
