Celebrate 25 Years of The Sims with Melbourne’s Epic Y2K Pop-Up at ACMI

25 Years of The Sims

Melbourne’s very own Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) recently lit up the city with a dazzling pop-up installation in honour of The Sims’ 25th anniversary.

From 21st to 23rd February 2025, visitors were whisked back to the early 2000s—a time when The Sims first enchanted gamers around the globe.

Local talents Josh and Matt lent their creative flair to design a quirky, Y2K-inspired bedroom that oozes retro charm. Picture blow-up furniture, towering CD collections, and delightfully fuzzy rugs—a playful nod to the era of early Sims gaming. Dedicated gaming stations allowed fans to dive into classic titles like The Sims 1 and The Sims 2, reigniting fond memories and sparking new ones.

The event buzz was electric, with session spots disappearing faster than you can say “Simlish!” Those who managed to secure a booking even enjoyed bonus sessions if they arrived early.

Adding to the excitement were live streams featuring popular Sims influencers, along with an expert panel discussion featuring representatives from both EA and ACMI that explored the lasting legacy of the game.

For anyone who missed out on the live fun, there’s still a way to join the celebration.

The Sims 25th Birthday Bundle is now on offer, letting fans experience the magic on modern PCs. This vibrant celebration is not just a nod to a beloved game—it’s a heartfelt tribute to a cultural icon that has inspired creativity, community, and endless fun for 25 brilliant years.

So whether you’re a die-hard fan revisiting your early Sims days or a newcomer eager to discover the charm, this milestone celebration has something delightful in store for everyone!
