Paramount Pictures has announced that Fences was nominated for four Academy Awards, Best Picture, Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Viola Davis), Best Actor in a Leading Role (Denzel Washington) and Best Adapted Screenplay (August Wilson).
“Thank you to the Academy for this wonderful recognition and for honouring August Wilson’s brilliant words. I am just lucky to have been entrusted with this project and to have the chance to work with the amazing Viola Davis and the rest of my talented cast and Crew,” said Denzel Washington.
Viola Davis, whose Academy Award nomination for Fences marks the third of her career, said “Thank you to the Academy for recognising this extraordinary, important film and my work in it. Thank you Denzel for being at the helm!”
Fences is released in New Zealand cinemas on the 9th February 2017.
