Born in the late 80s, my peers and I were perfectly timed to ride the Girl Power wave when the Spice Girls burst onto the scene with Wannabe in 1996, and ride we did. We had everything from the official Chuppa Chup flavours (Strawberries and Cream for Baby, Cola for Scary etc) to the Spice Girls Inspired Impulse spray, platform sneakers, and every other piece of merch we could get our hands-on.
Now, I’ve heard news to delight and excite the 10-year-old me:
The Spice Girls could be reuniting next year to film a sequel to their hit 90s film Spice World!
The girl band officially split in 2000, two years after Geri Halliwell left, and now they’ve reportedly approached a famed screenwriter to write a second film, according to the UK’s Mirror. Spice World came out in 1997, and the singers apparently want a sequel to be released next year to celebrate its 25th anniversary.

The Spice World bus was one of the best characters of the 1997 film
The original film may have been panned by critics, but fans didn’t care – we loved it! The film raked in more than NZ$135 million. To this day it’s one of my favourite feel-good films to veg out to.
The project is being headed by Geri Horner (nee Halliwell), it’s been claimed, as she’s now managing the group, with fellow bandmates Melanie C, Mel B and Emma Bunton reported to be on board with filming a sequel. They’ll be hoping that Victoria Beckham will join them, in spite of her refusal to join them on their most recent reunion tour.

The 1997 film featured great guest appearances
A source told The Sun the girls had been talking about how to celebrate the film’s anniversary and “are actively considering making a tongue-in-cheek sequel”.
While the sequel isn’t confirmed or in the works yet, my girl-power peers and I have our fingers and toes crossed. Viva Forever!
