Godzilla’s 70th Anniversary

Godzilla's 70th Anniversary

The King of Monsters has returned to the big screen.

Celebrating the 70th anniversary of Godzilla, fans of the icon can experience a brand-new 4K restoration of the original 1954 Godzilla in cinemas this Godzilla Day.

But that’s not all. Select locations will also be screening Godzilla Minus One and the highly anticipated Godzilla Minus One/Minus Colour for the first time in cinemas.

Godzilla (1954)

The movie follows how the American nuclear weapons testing created a seemingly unstoppable, dinosaur-like beast in the original 1954 Japanese version of Godzilla.

Japan is thrown into a panic after several ships explode and are sunk near Odo Island.

An expedition to the island led by paleontologist Professor Kyohei Yemani soon discovers something more devastating than imagined: a 164-foot-tall monster whom the natives call Gojira.

Now, the monster begins a rampage that threatens to destroy not only Japan but the rest of the world as well.

Godzilla Minus One (2023)

Already devastated by World War II, Japan must now contend with the terrifying and overwhelming force known as Godzilla.

Godzilla Minus One Minus Colour (2024)

The 2023 Academy Award-winning Godzilla film, set in Japan right after World War II, is re-released with this new version. The film’s visual mood is changed by draining it of colour and revamping the look to black-and-white.

Showing at Event Cinemas, Rialto Cinemas, and Hoyts Cinemas, Godzilla Day will be celebrated on the 3rd of November across select locations in New Zealand.
