Kings Coronation Concert Lineup Announced

The Kings Coronation is set to be one of the highlights of 2023, and the one event on the front of everyone’s mind will be the Kings Coronation Concert.

The Coronation has been planned for Saturday, May 6th with official proceedings lasting from dawn until dusk.

The concert will be part of the festivities on Sunday, May 7th, and will take place on the lawn of Windsor Castle.

The event will be attended by 20,000 members of the public who have won tickets in the ballot system, and will also be broadcast live on television around the world.

One of the top names confirmed in the lineup will be three original members of the 1990s boyband, Take That. Gary Barlow, Howard Donald, and Mark Owen have been touring as a trio since the departure of fellow band members Jason Orange and Robbie Williams.

The Take That members said in a statement that this will be their first show since completing the Odyssey Tour four years ago.

“A huge live band and orchestra, a choir, military drummers, the backdrop of Windsor Castle and the celebration of a new king. We can’t wait,” read the statement.

Two chart-toppers will jet in from the United States to perform at the gala, with one being legendary musician, Lionel Richie. The ‘Dancing on the Ceiling’ singer is taking time off his busy schedule on ‘American Idol’ to appear at the event, and is said to be thrilled to have his name on the run sheet.

“To share the stage with the other performers at the coronation concert is a once-in-a-lifetime event and it will be an honour and a celebration,” said Richie.

Lionel Richie’s ‘American Idol’ co-judge, Katy Perry is also a confirmed artist and has been a long-time supporter of the King’s charities for several years, dating back to when he was the Prince of Wales.

Katy Perry, who is an ambassador for the British Asian Trust, said that this concert will hopefully raise awareness of the good work that they do.

“Helping to shine a further light on the British Asian Trust’s Children’s Protection Fund, whose work includes on-ground initiatives to fundraising, with the aim to find solutions to child trafficking,” said Perry.

To appeal to the King’s love of Opera and Classical music, two stars of the stage will share a duet performance in his honour. World-renown tenor, Andrea Bocelli will join forces with Welsh barritone, Sir Bryn Terfel for a one-off performance, as well as a specially formed choir, named the Coronation Choir, taking to the stage too.

The climax of the concert will be the segment labelled “Lighting Up the Nation,” and will involve iconic locations across the United Kingdom being lit up using projections, lasers, drone displays, and illuminations.

It is unclear as to whether the full lineup has been revealed in its entirety as many more stars have been rumoured to agree to perform. Some of these names include Welch pop star Sir Tom Jones, a pre-recorded performance from Sir Elton John, and Hollywood icon Bette Midler.
