Meet the New Steam Controller

Valve has launched its new Steam Controller on Steam, offering a flexible, all-in-one option for gamers who want to play across multiple devices without changing their setup.

Designed to work with your entire Steam library, the controller is compatible with PC, laptop, Steam Deck, and any device running Steam or Steam Link. It is built to adapt to different play styles, whether you are gaming at a desk, on the couch, or on the go.

At its core, the controller delivers a familiar layout with some notable upgrades. It features next-generation magnetic thumbsticks for improved responsiveness and durability, along with full-sized buttons, trackpads, and four rear grip buttons that can be customised to suit different games. A new feature called Grip Sense introduces motion control that activates based on how you hold the controller, offering a more intuitive way to aim and navigate.

One of its more distinctive additions is the included “puck”, which acts as both a wireless transmitter and a charging dock. It connects magnetically to the controller, creating a clean, simple setup while delivering a fast and stable connection. For those who prefer traditional options, Bluetooth and USB connectivity are also supported.

Battery life is another highlight, with more than 35 hours of gameplay on a single charge. The controller also incorporates high-definition rumble, delivering more precise haptic feedback that enhances the overall gaming experience.

Fully integrated with Steam Input, the controller is designed for customisation. Players can tweak controls, download community configurations, or build their own layouts, making it suitable for everything from casual games to more complex titles. The addition of trackpads also makes it easier to play games that typically rely on mouse and keyboard input.

The Steam Controller is part of a broader expansion of Valve’s hardware ecosystem, alongside products like the Steam Deck and upcoming platforms that extend how and where players access their games.

Available now via Steam, the controller starts at $99 USD, with regional pricing varying by market.
