Sky has announced its brand-new Sky New Zealand Originals two-part docuseries Miriam Margolyes in New Zealand will premiere exclusively on Sky Open and Sky Go from Sunday, the 9th of February at 7.30 pm.
This will follow the premiere of Miriam Margolyes: Impossibly Australian on Sky’s Living channel on Saturday, the 25th of January at 7.30 pm.
The irrepressible Miriam Margolyes has embarked on a new road trip adventure in preparation for her first New Zealand film role as a Kiwi nun. She is determined to discover what it means to be a Kiwi on a journey full of hilarious surprises, unexpected challenges and revealing stories.
Episode 1 will see Miriam striking out across the North Island on a quest to uncover the “soul of the country”. She will begin in Wellington, diving headfirst into the distinct culture of New Zealand, attending her first rugby match at the city’s ‘cake tin’ Sky stadium.
She will also discover an unexpected affinity with hobbits and uncover how New Zealand’s unique Māori heritage has shaped its identity today. Featured guests include rugby legend Ruby Tūi and Sir Peter Jackson.
In the second episode, Miriam will head to the rugged South Island to confront some of the challenges facing the nation and how Kiwis respond to them to understand the country and its people better.
As intrepid and outspoken as ever, Miriam has tackled the issue of gangs by meeting a member of the notorious Mongrel Mob.
Following in the footsteps of the character she’ll be playing in her first New Zealand film, Miriam will venture into the remote mountain passes, where she comes face-to-face with historic rivalries and finds strength and kindness in the face of adversity.
Featured guests include relatives of Pike River Mine disaster victims, members of the Mongrel Mob and Groundswell movement, as well as the 2019 Christchurch Mosque attack hero Abdul Aziz.
