Movie-goers flee Joker movie

Movie-goers at a Paris screening of Joker were left terrified after a man stood up and yelled ‘Allahu Akbar.’

A patron of The Grand Rex cinema said that some audience members immediately began to flee.

“It was total panic,” he said.

“People jumped over seats and women fell to the ground in the aisles.”

The director of the venue said the suspect and his accomplice intended to scare audience members out of the theatre and then steal their leftover belongings.

“They had already used the same tactic once on a train,” the director said.

The main suspect initially avoided accusation from a security guard, however was later arrested by police.

This incident is the second time Joker attendees have been scared at a cinema. Earlier this month, US movie-goers fled a Joker screening after a man began spitting and applauding on-screen killings.

The film itself has been accused of promoting gun violence and in September service members were warned of the potential of a mass shooting, following the one that took place during a screening of The Dark Knight Rises in 2012.
