Get ready to return to Ramsay Street because the popular Australian soap opera ‘Neighbours’ is set to make a return to screens. The announcement comes after the show officially said goodbye last year after a run of 37 years.
Amazon Freevee, Prime Video and Fremantle announced the new chapter of Neighbours will officially start production on 17 April, 2023 at Nunawading Studios in Melbourne, Australia.
The announcement was shared by the cast during the final show of “Neighbours – The Celebration Tour” at the London Palladium.
The cast on stage included Alan Fletcher, Jackie Woodburne, Stefan Dennis, Ryan Moloney, Annie Jones, and April Rose Pengilly. All six actors will be returning for the new chapter.
‘Neighbours’ Executive Producer, Jason Herbison said that to have made the announcement, it feels very real now.
“It’s a hive of activity at the studio. We’re busy writing the next chapter of Neighbours, bringing to life again the show’s much-loved characters as well as new residents. It’s exciting to see the sets being prepped, ready to start filming on April 17 which will be a huge day for everyone involved.”
The new chapter Neighbours will launch in the Spring of 2023 and is produced by Fremantle.
The series will premiere for free, exclusively on Amazon Freevee in the UK and U.S. with the series also to stream on Prime Video in Canada, Ireland, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
Neighbours will continue to be broadcast in Australia on Network 10, the home for Neighbours for over three decades. Network 10 will retain first-run rights in Australia and episodes will be available ad-free on Prime Video in Australia seven days later.
The soap opera first aired in 1985, and has been a launching pad for Australian talent since. Well-known names such as Margot Robbie, Kylie Minogue, Natalie Imbruglia, Chris and Liam Hemsworth, Guy Pearce, and Jason Donovan have all appeared in the series. At the time the series concluded last year, 8,903 episodes had aired.
