A new film exploring the genesis of Batman’s arch-nemesis The Joker is to be the first R-rated live-action movie in the superhero franchise.
Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix as a failed stand-up comedian who turns to a life of crime and chaos in Gotham City, slowly rising to become a frightening legend.
The film is rated R, for ‘Restricted’, meaning American viewers under 17 must be accompanied by an adult to watch Joker in cinemas.
The trailer garnered much attention when it was released in April, receiving over 8 million views in the first few hours of its publication. The film will be released in October.
