Former President and First Lady Barack and Michelle Obama have secured a deal with Spotify to produce podcasts exclusively for the platform.
The podcasts will be produced under Obama’s media production company, Higher Ground. As yet, no titles have been announced, nor has the amount of content to be produced.
“We’ve always believed in the value of entertaining, thought-provoking conversation,” President Obama said in a statement. “It helps us build connections with each other and open ourselves up to new ideas. We’re excited about Higher Ground Audio because podcasts offer an extraordinary opportunity to foster productive dialogue, make people smile and make people think, and, hopefully, bring us all a little closer together.”
The announcement comes one year after Higher Ground secured a deal to make content for Netflix. It’s believed that Spotify is attempting to stockpile exclusive podcast content, in the same manner as Netflix’s exclusive video content.
