Review | Bridgerton Season 4, Part 1

A Cinderella dream that actually delivers. Oh my god – what a season!

I’ve officially stopped watching trailers because they’re straight-up bad, but I did know that S4 of Bridgerton would focus on Benedict and Sophie, and as a Benedict fan since the first season, I was locked in.

Add in the fact that this season is a Cinderella retelling? Say less. I eat that trope up every single time, no shame. Who doesn’t love a Cinderella story?

What we got, though, was not just a Cinderella story; it was that and more. Bridgerton S4 Part 1 feels thoughtful, romantic, emotionally layered, and book-accurate, which longtime fans will really appreciate (thank you, Shondaland).

Let’s be honest, S3 was lowkey disappointing. Colin and Penelope’s season just didn’t click, and I can’t even fully explain why. The addition of Francesca’s arc was a standout, but the ending left a bad taste. Her beginning to develop feelings for Michaela (Michael in the books) after marrying John, who is literally Michaela’s cousin, feels a bit messy for fans of the books. And from what we see in S4, the show seems fully committed to that direction.

Thankfully, S4 feels like a return to form. Yerin Ha as Sophie Beckett is pure perfection. Every single scene she’s in is captivating. She plays Sophie with so much softness, strength, and quiet longing that you fall in love with her almost instantly. She embodies the character so naturally that it’s hard to imagine anyone else in the role.

And Benedict? We already know and love him. Luke Thompson continues to deliver, bringing both charm and emotional depth. Watching him reconnect with his artistic side this season felt incredibly satisfying and very true to his character.

The chemistry between Benedict and Sophie is undeniable. Every shared glance, every moment of tension; it all works. The masquerade ball was handled beautifully, especially their first kiss.

Normally, first kisses are all about prolonged pining and anticipation, but because of the masquerade and Cinderella framing, it felt natural rather than rushed. But don’t worry, there is still plenty of yearning on both sides.

The scene set to Enchanted by Taylor Swift deserves applause. The longing, the unspoken feelings, the emotional restraint? Absolutely unreal. I was genuinely screaming and squealing throughout the season, but especially during this scene. Peak Bridgerton romance!

Also, I don’t care what anyone says, I love Footman John. He’s charming, flirty, and adds so much personality whenever he’s on screen.

Hyacinth continues to be a standout. I love how fiercely she stands up for her dreams and isn’t afraid to challenge Eloise. It makes me even more excited to see the remaining Bridgerton siblings get their seasons eventually.

The scene between Lady Danbury and Queen Charlotte was quietly heartbreaking, adding emotional weight and reminding us of the sacrifices and loneliness behind power.

And yes, Violet Bridgerton’s tea garden finally blooming after ages was phenomenal. If you know, you know 😉

The ending of S4 Part 1 has definitely received backlash, especially surrounding Benedict’s infamous three words (and no, not those three words). I completely understand the frustration.

But honestly? Given the time period the show is set in and Benedict’s journey, I also understand his point of view.

I can’t wait to watch Part 2, especially since Lady Araminta, Rosamund and Posy (she’s adorable) have now moved closer to where the Bridgertons reside.

Bridgerton S4 Part 1 was pure perfection and, for me, just as strong as S1. It reminded me why I fell in love with Bridgerton in the first place.

That said… nothing will ever top Season 2. #Kanthony forever (they have a baby in S4 Part 2!!).

Our Rating: 4.75/5
