While it’s important to acknowledge the improvement in this year’s looks compared to the past, there are always a few celebrities who have either missed the theme entirely or have a unique take on what is fashionable.
That being said, here are some of our least favourite Met Gala looks. Remember, fashion is subjective, and everyone has their own tastes.
1.Jennie Kim
Despite how beautiful this South Korean superstar is, this look is simply underwhelming. The neckline and colour are breathtaking, but we aren’t fans of the length. Call us old-fashioned, but we love a nice long gown on a red carpet, especially at the Met Gala.
2. Rita Ora
This honourary Kiwi missed the mark with this Met Gala look. This near-naked dress is made from what looks like pipe cleaners and does nothing for Ora’s stunning physique. The tan mesh holding the dress together on the sides is also a big no-no, and it’s clear that this dress giving the opposite of an hourglass physique. That being said her shaggy bob does pair well with her excellent bone structure and simple yet elegant makeup.
3. Kim Kardashian
The queen of the Met has returned, but this time, in an underwhelming grey ensemble. Her bleached blonde hair has returned for the third year in a row, which washes out her natural olive features. The cardigan over the dress is a no from us. We understand that it is from Masin Margiela, but it is still ugly with a capital U. Not only does it distract from her minuscule waist, but it covers the entire neckline of her beautiful silver dress.
4. Gwendoline Christie
Although she deserves some credit for stepping outside the box, she may have stepped too far out. We are unsure how to describe this ensemble, but it doesn’t appear to be on theme. The hair is very reminiscent of the candyfloss you get at the fair, and the black mesh coat looks as if it would be itchy.
5. Jonathan Anderson, Mike Faist and Josh O’Connor
These looks aren’t particularly bad, but they aren’t particularly good. The Met Gala is THE fashion event of the year, so why do men keep wearing plain black suits? Wisdom Kanye and Lil Nas X are perfect examples of men who stick to the theme while exploring what the fashion industry offers.
