Triggar Happy Finds Heart In New Single ‘Sundown’

Born and raised in Ōtorohanga, Waikato, Triggar Happy is proving that it is never too late to completely reinvent your life. After spending years in the farming world running six farms, Regan Tucker walked away from everything he had built to pursue music full-time, trading the paddocks for the stage.

Now, that gamble is paying off.

Following the release of his single ‘Zombies’ earlier this year, which earned radio play on The Rock, Triggar Happy has quickly become one of Aotearoa’s rising country rock names. His momentum has continued to build through recent media appearances, the release of ‘Cowboy Power Rock’, and a buzzing Auckland performance at Big Fan that drew a passionate crowd of friends, family, and new fans.

Triggar Happy has released his latest single, ‘Sundown’, a warm, feel-good track made for road trips, golden hour drives, and winding down at the end of the day. Blending pop-country charm with his signature gritty edge, the song shows a softer side to his sound after earlier releases leaned heavily on rock influences.

At its core, ‘Sundown’ is a love song dedicated to his wife, Cherie, reflecting on the life they have built together through every high and low. With lyrics including “look how far we’ve come my girl”, the track captures the comfort of finding your person after years of change, risk, and reinvention.

“‘Sundown’ is a feel-good song about Cherie and I,” Triggar explained. “It’s about having your comfort person there at the end of the day. Kicking off your boots, soaking it all in, and thinking, look how far we’ve come.”

The release follows a rapid rise for the artist, whose albums ‘Talk Is Cheap’ and ‘Love Loyalty Respect’ both reached #1 on the Top 20 Aotearoa Album Charts. He also took home Impact Artist of the Year at the 2025 Independent Music Awards, while building a growing online audience with more than 1.2 million social media impressions over the past month.

Triggar Happy blends country storytelling with rock swagger, blues influences, and soulful vocals, drawing comparisons to artists like Teddy Swims, Jelly Roll, and Jimmy Barnes.

‘Sundown’ proves he is just as comfortable stepping into a brighter, more radio-friendly pop country lane while still holding onto the grit and honesty that define his music.

With a deluxe album currently in the works for release later this year, Triggar Happy continues to carve out his own space in New Zealand’s country rock scene. One built on authenticity, storytelling, and real-life experience.
