Turning Heartbreak Into Harmony

Turning Heartbreak Into Harmony

Wellington harmony trio A.R.T have released their latest single, “Die From A Broken Heart”, teaming up with Tiana Miti of award winning Wellington band MITI for a country tinged take on the Maddie & Tae favourite.

The collaboration came about after A.R.T shared an acoustic performance of the song online. The performance quickly gained traction, with the response from listeners ultimately inspiring the trio to take their version into the studio and turn it into an official release.

It is an increasingly familiar way for music to find a second life. A song does not necessarily need a carefully planned campaign or traditional introduction to connect with listeners. Sometimes a performance lands at exactly the right moment, and in the case of A.R.T, the response gave the trio an opportunity to explore what their interpretation of “Die From A Broken Heart” could become beyond the original acoustic performance.

For the official release, A.R.T brought Tiana into the mix, retaining the country energy at the heart of the Maddie & Tae track while putting their own stamp on it. The result is warm and stripped back, allowing the vocals and harmonies to do much of the work.

It is a natural space for A.R.T, whose harmony driven sound has become an important part of their musical identity. Tiana brings another dimension to the collaboration, coming to the release following MITI’s growing run of success. The Wellington band has built its sound around a blend of contemporary country and pop, with Tiana’s vocals and songwriting at its heart.

“Die From A Broken Heart” also continues an ambitious year of releases from A.R.T. Throughout 2026, the trio have been working through their First Thursdays campaign, releasing new music on the first Thursday of every month.

The project has given A.R.T plenty of room to collaborate along the way. Recent releases have included “Givin’ It Up” with US based Tongan artist KENIYE, as well as “Make Me Believe” with Sammy Johnson.

The consistent release schedule follows several significant milestones for the trio. A.R.T have multiple Pacific Music Awards to their name and received an Aotearoa Music Award nomination for Breakthrough Artist in 2025. They followed that with a nomination for Best Soul/R&B Artist in 2026, continuing to establish themselves as one of Aotearoa’s leading harmony driven acts.

For “Die From A Broken Heart”, however, the story circles back to something much simpler: an acoustic performance, an audience that wanted more and a song that proved worth revisiting.

“Die From A Broken Heart” by A.R.T featuring Tiana Miti is available on streaming platforms now.
