Pack your backpack and grab your friends, Bluey’s place, from the iconic Australian kids cartoon, is coming to Airbnb.
For one weekend only, one lucky fan of the show who is able to travel to Brisbane will be able to rent a real-world version of the beloved Aussie cartoon’s Queenslander (the Aussie equivalent of a classic Kiwi villa) home, as well as being given a host of extras and experiences.
With a sweet nod to the show, the Airbnb is “hosted” by The Heelers, the fictional cartoon family from the show that includes Bluey and her little sister Bingo (voiced by child actors), Mum Chilli (voiced by Melanie Zanetti), and Dad Bandit (voiced by David McCormack).
According to the listing, “Bluey is a 6-year-old Blue Heeler with a boundless imagination” who is great at inventing games and deciding what roles people will play in those roles. “Her colourful family home is the backdrop to many of her elaborate adventures.”
Booking a weekend at Bluey’s place will cost you AU$11 (NZ$12) a night and the three bed-home can sleep up to four people.
“From the moment you step on to the front lawn, you’ll be transported to Bluey’s vibrant world, spotting familiar touches like the red letterbox, bone-adorned chimney and iconic bay window,” the listing says.
“Inside, discover rooms re-imagined with a breezy Mid-century modern aesthetic coupled with playful pops of colour.”
The interior of the house really is any fan’s dream environment, decked out in bunting, fairy lights and classic washed-out brights and pastels. The kids’ bedroom and playroom (complete with chattermax and magic xylophone) is all chalky lemons, corals and faded blues.
The grown ups’ bedroom is slightly more sedate, with fresh white walls, and chic rattan furniture. Cosy bath towels are provided. You’ll need them after a long soak in the classic claw foot tub. A covered verandah and outdoor dining space is the perfect place to fire up the barbie after a long day living like Australia’s best-loved cartoon character.
Bluey’s home took two years for the production to build but will only be available to rent for one weekend. Although an Airbnb spokeswoman did say: “never say never” about future opportunities to stay in the home.
For the time being, this weekend adventure includes a behind-the-scenes tour of the Ludo Studio, where Bluey is created, a Chinese takeaway feast (spring rolls included), a baking experience decorating the Heeler’s famous duck cake and a puppet-making session where you’ll get to create a Bob Bilby of your own.
Lucky Airbnb guests are invited to play a game of musical statues to the Bluey theme song on arrival, to set the tone of the whole weekend.
