AUCKLAND’S LIGHTPATH IS HAVING A BIRTHDAY PARTY

BIKE PATH FESTIVAL POSTER - december 1st from 5-9pm on Canada St

On Saturday 1st December the Lightpath Festival is set to turn Auckland Central’s Canada St into a party like no other. The free community event will celebrate the second birthday of Te Ara I Whiti, the Instagram-famous pink bike path also known as the Lightpath, which runs from Union St to Canada St.

It’s a real block party with music, drinks, art, and food, kicking off from 5pm and going until at least 9 – possibly later, if the partygoers have anything to say about it.

Some of Neck of the Woods’ best bands will be there, including Ijebu Pleasure Club and DJ Hudge – plus many more! There will be more than 12 food vendors including Olas Latin Food, Madame George, and The Pie Piper, and craft beer brews will be available including Bike Auckland’s very own Bike Brew radler beer, available from the Brothers Beer Garden.

The parade starts at 6pm at Lightpath’s Canada St entrance, where bikies and pedestrians alike will roll along the pink road to the sound of the Auckland City Scoundrels, a New Orleans-style jazz group. Selfies, songs, and sweet treats will appear along the path with the Caluzzi drag queens, and plenty more surprises.

The block party will go all evening, with performances and interactive installations including lighting and art by Angus Muir all shining bright into the summer sky in respect of the noble bike.
