The FENNEC team recently got to chat with Asha Banks and Matthew Broome about Your Fault: London, and they were both so much fun to talk to.
Of course, I had to start by congratulating Asha on A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder S2 and on having her song “Too Busy Missing You” featured in Off Campus because, as someone who absolutely loved that show, I needed to know what that experience was like.
Turns out Asha was just as excited about Off Campus as the rest of us.
I got sent a link early, and I felt like I had been given gold dust. I was like, so many people would probably do bad things to have this right now.
She added that she loved the show and described hearing her own music featured in it as very surreal.
Thankfully, Off Campus isn’t the only project featuring her music.
With “Feel The Rush”, featured during the credits of My Fault: London, she excitedly revealed that her new song “Come Down” appears at the end of Your Fault: London and was grateful to be given another opportunity to have her music included in one of her projects.
Having loved Matthew as Guy in The Buccaneers, I asked him about his approach to Nick, as the two characters feel worlds apart. Rather than thinking about Nick as a stereotypical bad boy, Matthew explained that he approached him like any other character.
I think that’s quite a daunting thing to have to play. So you just attack it like any other character. What is at the centre of him and what’s making him do what he’s doing?
For Matthew, it was all about understanding Nick’s motivations and playing them honestly. He also joked that some of the work was already done for him.
They put you in a leather jacket, and it’s like, boom. Then boom, I’m a bad boy. Leather jacket and a Porsche!
Honestly, fair enough!
One thing I loved about My Fault: London was that Noah and Nick are equal baddies. They’re both strong-willed, a little dangerous, and constantly challenge each other, but there are also moments where they let their guard down, so I had to ask what it was like filming the underground racing scenes.
Both Matthew and Asha lit up as they talked about those sequences.
Matthew explained that because so much of the filming focuses on Nick and Noah’s relationship, it can almost feel like they’re making a romance film and forgetting about the action side of the story. Then, suddenly, they arrive on set for the racing scenes, and everything changes.
You walk onto a set, and there are so many people, cars, everything, stunts. And you’re like, ‘Whoa.’
In terms of the chemistry between Nick and Noah, the first film was packed with tension and some truly electric moments, and Matthew believes the sequel has even more tension and buzzy moments than the first.
At the same time, they both agreed that there’s much more emotional depth this time around.
Asha also pointed out one major difference between the first film and the second: the characters talk much more to each other, and Matthew laughed and immediately agreed. While the first movie was largely built on eye contact and longing looks, this time around, the relationship has evolved.
Finally, I had to ask one of the most important questions of all: matching tattoos. Since Nick and Noah have matching tattoos in the film, I wanted to know where Matthew and Asha stood on them in real life.
Matthew admitted that getting a matching tattoo with a significant other is a pretty bold move, while Asha said she’d be more open to the idea with a best friend.
I think theirs is cool and feels like a sign because it’s an accident, because they both just happen to have the same tattoo.
As for getting matching tattoos themselves? The pair joked that maybe after the third film comes out, they’ll finally consider it.
Overall, it was such a fun conversation, and the playful friendship between them made the interview an absolute joy and shows why the films work. And if their teasing is anything to go by, fans should prepare themselves for even more chemistry, tension and emotional damage when Your Fault: London returns.
