FOOD ICON CLOSES FOR THE FIRST TIME

The original White Lady food truck, 1948-1961

A famous food icon in Auckland is closed for the first time in over 70 years.

Downtown Auckland’s White Lady food cart will shut down for the first time since it was set up in 1948.

The latest truck was the fourth generation cart in a business set up 72 years ago to serve hungry crowds of after work drinkers and has survived the changing face and tastes of the Auckland CBD.

Owner Max Washer, grandson of White Lady founder Pop Washer, said the family was gutted to close the business which had never missed a night until now.

The family is confident, however, that the that the White Lady will return in full force.
