Hate Cleaning the Toilet? This Toxic-Free Cleaning Hack is a Game-Changer

One of our least favourite things to do is cleaning the toilet. We are pretty sure that we are not alone in this. But the good news is you can stop cleaning the toilet so often by using DIY toilet bombs. Ditch the hard chemicals in favour of this toxic-free toilet bowl cleaner that actually works.

There are so many cleaning hacks around, some new, some tried and true from the good old days that your Grandma swears by. But this one is definitely a keeper!

How does it work you ask? Well the baking soda is not only a mildly-abrasive cleaner, it also acts as an excellent deodoriser and the essential oils make it smell nice but the Dr Bronner’s Castile Soap is our new go-to for extra antibacterial properties.

To use: simply pop one into your toilet as often as you want – once a day or once a week – whatever floats your boat.

Toilet Bombs

1 cup Baking Soda

1/4 cup Citric Acid

1 1/2 tbsp Dr. Bronner’s Pure-Castile Soap

4ml Peppermint Essential Oil (can also use tea tree, citrus or lavender)

2 Silicone Ice Cube Trays

How To:

Mix the baking soda and citric acid together then slowly add Dr. Bronner’s Pure-Castile Soap and peppermint essential oil. Stir well until it resembles wet sand.

Squash the mixture into your ice cube trays and push down really well, (it pays to work quickly).

Leave to set in a dry place and check after 15 minutes. Push back down if they are rising up.

Then leave to set solid.
*this can take anywhere from 30mins to a couple of hours depending on the humidity.

Once set hard, carefully remove the bombs from the trays and store in a jar or container that has a really good seal.
*If you have any little silica gel packs left over from any recent purchases those are perfect for keeping moisture out.

When ready to use, take one bomb from jar and replace lid quickly, pop into the toilet bowl and let it fizz and work its magic, then flush.
