McDonald’s Arrive at Rhythm and Alps

First, it was glamping; now, the Macca’s Camp Out is THE site to secure at this year’s Rhythm and Alps New Year festival, running from 29-31 December. McDonald’s New Zealand has joined forces with the iconic Kiwi festival to deliver a campsite like no other for three lucky couples.

The site will feature four uniquely designed, Big Mac-inspired, fully recyclable tents, completely kitted out with iconic wallpaper, sleeping bags, pillows with dream starters and even pickle eye masks. This is perfectly complemented with a festival survival kit, including sunglasses, sunblock, bucket hats and torches. Our lucky winners will have everything they need to have a great time partying to iconic acts Benee, Fat Freddy’s Drop, and Homebrew, to name a few.

The location of the sites has been hand-picked by festival organisers for its prime positioning, and the recipients will also have their own security details.

“Rhythm and Alps is McDonald’s first festival here in New Zealand, and it’s a great partnership for us, built on a shared ethos,” said Luke Rive, Director of Marketing at McDonald’s New Zealand.

“We are both focused on helping our consumers make better choices and recycling where they can. The Macca’s Camp Out is an eye-catching and super fun way to draw attention to this and reward keen customers with a festival experience they will never forget.”

The tents have been designed, prototyped and produced by Kiwi Company, Refold, and are fully recyclable. Designed to capture attention but then end up in the right bin, these tents offer a fantastic experience with a quick pack down and minimal impact on the environment.

A full waste review by Waste Management expert Closed Loop, revealed that an estimated 70 percent of waste generated at the festival by its 10,000 attendees is actually tents and camping left behind on 1st January.

“The results from our waste audit, were astounding,” said Harry Gorringe, General Manager, Rhythm and Alps.

“The disposable mindset of our event attendees is disheartening and something we want to shift at this year’s festival. McDonald’s shares that sentiment, and we’re working together to shine a light on better choices to be made when sourcing your accommodation and incentivising our festival attendees to take their tent with them on the 1st”.

As part of the partnership, McDonald’s and R&A will be rewarding all festie goers that take their tents home with them.

“Showing your tent on the exit will earn you a Big Mac at this year’s Rhythm and Alps. We’re celebrating those that work with us to reduce waste and change that behaviour and disposable mindset – and what better way to do it than with a Big Mac!” said Gorringe.
