Imagine it’s the brink of summer in your small village. You and your sisters decide to walk home from school instead of bus. You pass the beach and start to play chicken in the water with some boys. This innocent act quickly turns to scandal, with unintended consequences. Your home, now a prison. You learn to clean and to cook instead of going back to school. One at a time, your sisters are married off to strangers.
This is an absolutely beautiful story about five sisters “driven by the same desire for freedom, fight back against the limits imposed on them.”. The film is definitely in my top 5 of the year so far and 100% a must-see. Despite being Turkish, Mustang is the official Oscar entry for France in the Best Foreign Language Film Category.
