Old Letters, Old Men and Old Justice Bring Drama to Acorn this August

Acorn TV has an eclectic range of treats in store for you this August, keeping your viewing appetite sated with cupid, criminals, and cultural clashes.

The romance (and dubious reliability) of writing letters is celebrated in the Lost Letter Mysteries (also known as Sign, Sealed, Delivered) with a team of postal detectives ensuring lost treasures find their homes, small-town Australia brings big-time drama in The Circuit and elderly criminals prove you’re never too old to go down in a blaze of glory, in The Hatton Garden Heist.

Starting the month off is Lost Letter Mysteries. These heart-warming mysteries follow a hardworking group of postal detectives working to solve the riddles behind undeliverable letters and packages from years past.

Starring Eric Mabius (Ugly Betty) as Oliver, the prim and proper head of the unit and his partner Shane (Kristin Booth, The Kennedys) who complements his old-school letter hunting with her technological prowess.

As the squad ventures out of their basement office, they set out into an unpredictable world where letters from the past save lives, solve crimes, reunite old loves, and change futures. They may arrive late, but they’re always miraculously on time.

Series 1 and 2 of The Circuit sees city lawyer Drew Ellis (Aaron Pederson, Mystery Road, Jack Irish) finds himself a long way from home as he begins his new job with the Aboriginal Legal Service, in the remote Kimberley region of northwestern Australia.

Confident, capable, and now completely out of his depth, Drew has taken a sabbatical from his comfortable legal career to go bush. The Circuit follows Ellis and an entourage of court officers and lawyers on a regular five-day, 2000 kilometre round-trip to dispense justice to remote Aboriginal communities.

It’s a tough gig for anyone, but for Drew, a mixed-race city-slicker now in the outback, it’s a rude awakening as he quickly comes to realise that one law for two cultures doesn’t always equal a fair go, and that life in the outback isn’t always as black and white as the law.

At the end of the month get ready to enjoy The Hatton Garden Heist. In this miniseries veteran greats Timothy Spall (Harry Potter, The King’s Speech) and Kenneth Cranham (Layer Cake) star in this fictionalised true-crime drama, portraying the real-life events of one of the most remarkable and lucrative robberies in British history.

The Hatton Garden Heist tells the cunning story of an ageing gang of granddads who so nearly got away with it. Pulling together an audacious raid on an underground safe deposit facility in Hatton Garden, London, during the Easter Holidays of 2015, this wily bunch of bandits artfully purloin £14 million in cash and jewellery.

Showing age is no deterrent for a positive attitude and a questionable moral compass, these analogue criminals in a digital world unite to pull off the heist of all heists in what was almost the crime of the century.

Mystery abounds throughout the month on Acorn with these highlights, plus many others including, Murdoch Mysteries, Emma Fielding Mysteries, and Dark Heart, so get your sleuth on and snuggle up for some great TV on Acorn.
