REVIEW | Pig – a Strange and Sad Drama

Nicholas Cage stars in film Pig, where his character only leaves the Oregonian wilderness after his beloved truffle pig is violently taken from him. Oscar-winning Cage probably delivered his best performance yet.

Robin, played by Cage, is a simple man. He and his pig would forage for truffles which were picked up once a week by his sole contact with the outside world. It becomes clear very quickly that Robin lives away from society for a reason. Driven to the woods from an unspecified trauma that we slowly get to know more about.

This strange and sad drama would be impossible to believe with anyone except Cage as the leading role. Cage deeply embraced this role and the results are spectacular. Cage clearly poured every inch of his soul into this performance.

While we egg the film on to into Liam Neeson’s Taken or John Wick, the film denies us every opportunity as Robin is simply too worn down to action these thoughts.

I saw someone online say that Leonardo Da Vinci has the Mona Lisa, Michaelangelo has the statue of David, and Nicholas Cage has Pig.

They couldn’t be more right.
