Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has become the fastest film to reach one million watches on Letterboxd, hitting the milestone six days after its wide release.
The previous record stood at 12 days, set by Barbie and since matched by Project Hail Mary, Backrooms, Superman and Stranger Things 5: The Finale.
Debuting on Letterboxd with a rating of 4.2 and sitting at 4.4 at the time of writing, The Odyssey reached one million watches in half that time. Barbie’s record in 2023 was set when Letterboxd had just over 9 million members, compared with over 30 million today.
However, with two of those films setting the 12-day pace earlier this year, the leap to six days reflects the speed at which film lovers are seeking out Nolan’s latest epic, not just Letterboxd’s growing membership.
The achievement has completed a full circle for the director. Inception was the first film to reach a million views on Letterboxd in 2021. Five years later, another Nolan film has become the fastest to do so.
The Odyssey has also entered Letterboxd’s all-time Top 500 at #115, making it the highest-rated film of 2026 on the platform, ahead of Project Hail Mary. It is Nolan’s seventh film in the Top 500, tying him with Andrei Tarkovsky and placing him behind only Akira Kurosawa and Ingmar Bergman for the most films by a single director in the list.
His others are The Dark Knight (#24), Interstellar (#34), The Prestige (#171), Inception (#260), Memento (#384) and Oppenheimer (#437).
The pace of engagement runs alongside the film’s record-breaking box office, which delivered Nolan’s biggest global opening to date at USD 264 million.
