Shining Light on 100 Years of Poppy Appeal

Sky Tower lit up red

In the lead up (April 22-25) to ANZAC Day, Sky Tower will light red, to support and raise awareness of the RSA’s annual Poppy Appeal, now in its 100th year.

The Sky Tower is the Southern Hemisphere’s tallest free-standing structure, and one of New Zealand’s most recognisable landmarks. Auckland & District RSA President Graham Gibson said having the Sky Tower lit up provided “a focal point for reflection.”

The RSA’s 100th annual Poppy Appeal is underway, this year hoping to raise awareness of New Zealand’s younger veterans with the words “The RSA is old, not every veteran that we support is.”

From April 22-25, SkyCity Auckland customers and visitors will have the opportunity to donate to purchase a poppy and can participate in dedicating a custom poppy sticker on to the ‘wall of remembrance’. Various SkyCity restaurants and hotels will be supporting the cause with donation stations.
