You Can Now Study Harry Styles at University

Harry Styles has a fondness for pearls, which is apt – because the latest Styles news will have you clutching yours!

Good news! You can now study Harry Styles at university.

Texas State University is offering a course centred on the pop star, the first-ever on the singer. Classes will start in Spring 2023, led by Dr Louie Dean Valencia.

The course “Harry Styles and the Cult of Celebrity: Identity, the Internet and European Pop Culture” will explore cultural and political development of the modern celebrity as related to questions of gender, sexuality, race, class, nation and globalism, media, fashion, fan culture, internet culture and consumerism.

Self-expression and comfort in oneself is a big part of the 28-year-old hitmaker’s aura and fans around the world have found connection in Harry’s message to “treat people with kindness”.

Valencia, an associate history professor, spent much of the pandemic writing a book on Styles – so knows a thing or two – and will select just 20 students for the course. These lucky chosen few will learn skills such as source evaluation, audio editing and social media campaign management.

The class will look at Styles’ work through time, stretching back to his time with One Direction through to his recent solo records. The course will delve into the cultural context surrounding the man himself, as well as explore the writers that have informed Styles’ work such as Susan Sontag and Alain de Botton.

BRB while we explore international student exchanges!
