REVIEW | Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga

Behold the beginning of the madness! Get ready for an action packed, beautifully cinematic film that MUST be watched in theatre. Directed by Academy Award-winning mastermind George Miller and his longtime partner/Oscar-nominated producer Doug Mitchell, the film is a much-anticipated return to the iconic dystopian world and delivers a feast for the eyes as you follow the journey of Furiosa.

As the world fell, young Furiosa (Anya Taylor-Joy) is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus (Chris Hemsworth). Sweeping through the Wasteland they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.

While Mad Max: Fury Road was unforgettable, it means the stakes were high, very high, to recreate a second perfect action flick with post-apocalyptic hot rods and epic demolition-derby carnage.

As a prequel, Furiosa is an explosive origin tale that is more revenge/thriller than anything else, while still set in a gnarly dystopian Wasteland.

Taylor-Joy stars (and excels) as Furiosa, evolving from a traumatised young girl to an independent warrior. Furiosa eventually finds herself on a War Rig driven by Praetorian Jack (Tom Burke), and I really wish they had time to dive into their relationship more. And you think they could have with a two and half hour screen time.

George Miller’s signature action scenes shine with breathtaking sequences and Taylor-Joy’s fiery performance are worth the trip out to the cinema this weekend.
