Review | Bad Boys: Ride or Die

Bad Boys

Bad Boys: Ride or Die is an absolute rollercoaster of comedy and action as Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are back with their over-the-top humour, and it’s just what you need.

The plot? Mike (Smith) and Marcus (Lawrence) are yet again the most wanted men in America, with a bounty on their heads.

Despite some of the jokes between Smith and Lawrence being recycled, directors Adil and Bilall delivered an absolute crowd-pleaser as the cinema hall had lots of people laughing and clapping at regular intervals.

Dennis Greene’s performance as Marcus’s son-in-law, Reggie, stole the show during his home invasion action sequence. Jay Shetty’s cameo as the wedding priest was the last thing I’d expect in a Bad Boys movie, but it was a fun surprise that added to Mike’s wedding scene.

Smith brings his A-game, as usual, and Lawrence’s comedic timing deserves all the applause. The chemistry between these two is still fire; they are soulmates across all lifetimes for sure 😉

I totally forgot about Armando, Mike’s cartel son from the previous movie, but Jacob Scipio’s portrayal of the character had incredible layers while being serious eye candy.

Talking about candy, the hotdogs and Skittles served by Sony Pictures New Zealand at the screening made all sense, as the movie opened with Marcus’ snack addiction, grabbing a bite of hot dog and Skittles at a convenience store.

Overall, the action sequences were pretty wild and felt straight out of a video game, and the vibe was light and fun, making it a must-watch for the OG fans and anyone who’s been along for the ride since the ’90s.

Like any of the other Bad Boys movies, whose storylines are hard to recall, Bad Boys: Ride or Die won’t stick in our memories for long. For those two hours, the film is filled with explosions, drone shots, action, and humour, all enough to make you forget the plot holes and everything else.

That being said, one thing that always remains is the iconic Bad Boys theme song, which has been repeatedly stuck in my head since the screening.

I don’t know if this is the end of the Bad Boys saga, but they’re going out with a bang! So, grab your Skittles, sit back, and enjoy the ride, watching Bad Boys: Ride or Die in cinemas now.

Cue *Bad boys, bad boys
Whatcha gonna do?
Whatcha gonna do when they come for you?*
