We binge-watched Dynasties: series review

Finding a binge-worthy show can be difficult, with so many platforms offering so many different options, you don’t want to waste your time cramming a sub-par show into what should have been a fiery binge-watching session. Not to worry, Fennec and Friends are here to tell you which shows are definitely worth your undivided and obsessive attention, and which are not.

Dynasties

To celebrate the legendary David Attenborough’s 93rd birthday earlier this week, we binge watched one of his latest masterpieces documenting the beauty of the natural world. Dynasties, much like Attenborough’s previous shows, endeavours to educate the viewer as to the beautiful world around us. This series contained five one-hour-long mini documentaries which each followed a specific family of an endangered species. Chimpanzees, emperor penguins, lions, painted wolves and tigers were the stars of their own episode and provided plenty of drama.

The series provided a fantastic up-close look at these animals and had viewers falling in love with the families. Some episodes were stronger than others. The lions, penguins and painted wolves were definitely the most engaging., while the chimps and tigers were a bit lacking. We got to watch as a generation of each species make extreme journeys, bring new life into the world, and attempt to survive some incredibly harrowing conditions.

The animals had hilarious and admirable personalities, making them highly entertaining to watch. The clumsy footsteps of the baby tigers and the awkward waddles of newly hatched penguins were utterly joyful. But just like Attenborough’s previous works, with the adorable, came the heartbreaking. Following species that are on the decline means that we were exposed to some gut-wrenching scenarios. From deadly turf wars with rival packs to the harsh realities of living in a frozen wasteland and the despicable actions of man, we watched some of these beautiful animals suffer to survive.

Ultimately, while plenty of tears were shed by both the viewers and the camera crew in the behind-the-scenes features, this show was wonderfully engaging and provided a solid five hours of binge-watching. Our only warning would be to avoid watching on a particularly emotional day because these stories can get heavy.
