As Australians prepare to welcome warmer weather, Canadian furniture brand Cozey believes the next wave of interior design inspiration is already here.
After seeing these home styling movements emerge across Canada, Australians are about to embrace the same shift towards brighter colours, softer shapes and more flexible homes designed for entertaining.
“Because our seasons are opposite, we get a unique preview of what’s to come,” said Cozey VP of Creative Marketing Edmund Lam.
“The homes we saw transform across Canada this spring are giving us a strong indication of what Australians will gravitate towards over the coming months. We’re expecting spaces to become brighter, more relaxed and much more adaptable as people make the most of the warmer weather.”

Blue skies (and sculptural curves) ahead
One of the biggest trends Cozey saw this spring was harsh lines and stark neutrals making way for dreamy blues and curved designs.
Sunshine decorating
After months of dark mornings and grey skies, Canadians embraced what Cozey called “sunshine decorating”, where heavier pieces were replaced with vibrant furniture, giving rooms an instant lift. With Australians famously loving the sun, Cozey predicts this will take off as soon as spring hits.
Flexible spaces are ready for entertaining season
As school holidays, spring gatherings and summer entertaining approach, furniture that can adapt to changing needs is becoming increasingly important. Modular sofas, movable seating and stylish sofa beds are helping Australians make the most of every square metre.
Edmund Lam added that across Canada this spring, people weren’t buying furniture for one moment or one room anymore. They wanted pieces that could evolve with their lifestyle, whether that’s hosting friends, dealing with kids and pets, or simply making the most of longer, warmer days.
“We think Australians are about to embrace exactly the same mindset,” he said.
