Baby Reindeer Review

our baby reindeer review

Despite the name being Baby Reindeer, this new series has nothing to do with Christmas and everything to do with a psychotic stalker. This is our official Baby Reindeer review.

This Netflix series has caused a stir, and it’s hard to decide what’s more mind-boggling: the fact that it’s based on a true story or that the real-life victim is portraying the main character.

Scottish comedian Richard Gadd is the mastermind behind the series, which is based on his real-life experience with an obsessed stalker. This show is a perfect example of making diamonds out of coal.

This is your official spoiler warning!

Donny, the protagonist, is left depleted and exhausted after all of his attempts to become a successful comedian failed. He is forced to work at a bar to make ends meet, where he meets Martha, a self-proclaimed lawyer who clearly doesn’t have much going on.

After a simple act of kindness, Martha quickly becomes obsessed with Donny, giving him the nickname baby reindeer (hence the name) and texting him disturbing messages over 100 times. Per day.

Donny’s flattery quickly turns to fear as he discovers that behind Martha’s sweet and pathetic facade, she is a convicted criminal. Things quickly become a nightmare, with Martha’s sick obsession affecting Donny’s relationship, living situation and career.

Although the first few episodes are light-hearted, the series delves into Donny’s past traumatic experiences and their ripple effect on his life. It is bound to make you laugh, cry, and possibly punch your television screen out of frustration.

We won’t spoil the end for you, but let’s just say that you will be hanging on to the edge of your seat.

The seven-episode series was rated an eight out of ten on iMDB, up there with shows like Arrested Development, Game of Thrones and Succession.
