Bob Marley Breaks NZ V-Day Records

The new Bob Marley biopic, “One Love,” has made history by achieving the highest-ever Valentine’s Day opening at the New Zealand cinema box office.

The film raked in an impressive $288,000, surpassing the previous record held by “Black Panther” since 2018, which grossed $242,000.

With this single day’s box office sales, “One Love” also claimed the top spot for the week, having sessions at 103 locations across New Zealand. The leading site for “One Love” was Hoyts Te Awa in the Waikato region.

Comparing the opening day number with other films in the same genre, “One Love” has surpassed its competitors, marking a 65 per cent increase above “Elvis” and 106 per cent higher than “Rocketman.”

This success proves that reggae and the music of Bob Marley have profound and far-reaching roots in New Zealand and a special connection with the legendary musician.
