BOOK CLUB // HOW (NOT) TO START AN ORPHANAGE

How could it be wrong to save children by starting an orphanage? When Tara Winkler visited an orphanage in Cambodia on a tour group in 2005, she witnessed children living in extreme poverty, and became determined to raise money to help them. Two years later, after some fundraising in Australia, Tara returned to discover the same children in deep trouble. So, with a team of locals and the support of friends, she established the Cambodian Children’s’ Trust (CCT). After having to learn a lot, very fast, she realised many of the actions she took with good intentions were not at all what the children needed. In this compelling, funny and poignant memoir, Tara shares the many joys and the terrible lows of her journey of “How (not) To Start an Orphanage.”
