British city bans Cheese Toasties

Cheese toasties aren’t a particularly offensive food. Sure, they can be cheap, simplistic, and sometimes associated with some negative stereotypes. Nothing about them is worth banning though, right?

Wrong. In the Southwest of England, the Bristol council has banned cheese toasties over fears that it could promote and draw in motorbike gangs and late-night drunker disturbances.

A food vendor applied for a permit to sell cheese toasties in Monk Park but was quickly shut down by councillors who feared the food van would tempt teenagers into skipping school.

“It’s right next to Orchard School which is a challenging school that sometimes has a problem with keeping kids in school,” said Clair Hiscott, councillor, Bristol City.
“The lure of a food concession may encourage kids to take a little walk.”
