David Jones’ first-ever store in New Zealand is, unfortunately, closing down after only four years, when it first arrived in Wellington.
The store is set to close its doors to the public in June 2022, following its closure, the company aims to launch an online store for the New Zealand market.
As the retail sector continues to change at an epic pace, the shift online for David Jones needs to be fast in order to effectively tap into the retail network.
The company will invest in its digital and physical channels with a focus on right-sizing to meet the changing needs of its customers.
David Jones’ parent company, Woolworths Holdings, is currently in the process of reviewing the capital structure of its Australasian arm – this includes David Jones’ and Country Roads’ New Zealand operations.
For luxury department stores like David Jones, they must create an experience that is both luxurious and convenient. Therefore, the online store will aim to achieve the convenience customers need, while their physical stores will continue to offer a luxury experience that can only be enjoyed in person.
