Elton John’s half-brother criticises ‘Rocketman’

Sir Elton John’s half-brother Geoff Dwight has criticised the representation of their father in recent biopic ‘Rocketman’.

Stanley Dwight, played by Steven Mackintosh in the film, is portrayed as a cold and indifferent father to young Elton, born Reginald Dwight. When he later remarried, Stanley is seen as a warm and caring father to his new family, but remains unpleasant and harsh in his treatment of his superstar firstborn.

Speaking to NME.com, Geoff Dwight said, “That’s not the dad I remember. Dad had a big heart and he loved us all equally. He was incredibly proud of Elton and everything that he achieved.”

Dwight cites the fact that his father bought a piano for Elton after he and Elton’s mother were estranged as evidence of his love for his son. “That doesn’t sound like a man who discourages his kids,” he said.
