Kiwi actor Alistair Browning dies

Award-winning Kiwi actor Alistair Browning has passed away after a battle with cancer.

The actor, known for playing Damrod in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy, was receiving care at Palmerston North’s Arohanui Hospice when he passed away on Sunday morning.

Browning had numerous television roles including turns in XenaHercules, and Power Rangers. He was also known for his work in soaps such as GlossShortland Street, and The Brokenwood Mysteries. He was friends with David Bowie, whom he met whilst filming Browning’s first feature, Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence.

Browning’s family have asked that those who wish to show their respect to his memory make a donation to Arohanui Hospice.
