Few things are more annoying than getting dressed, choosing an outfit, and discovering it looks like it’s spent the past three weeks crumpled at the bottom of a suitcase.
A new Auckland-made product wants to make that particular wardrobe problem a little easier. Pressed is a crease-release spray designed to smooth wrinkles from clothing without an iron, steamer, or frantic attempt with a hair straightener.
The concept is simple: spray, smooth and go. The water-based formula helps fabric fibres relax, so you can smooth creases by hand before letting the garment air-dry for a few moments. A fresh linen fragrance also gives clothes that clean, ready-to-wear feeling.
Pressed founder Kelly Keach came up with the idea after years of travelling and dealing with the inevitable problem of wrinkled clothes straight from a suitcase.
“I genuinely assumed someone here would be making one,” said Keach. “After searching everywhere, it became pretty clear there wasn’t really anything like it available in New Zealand, so I decided to make it myself.”
Keach spent a year developing the formula with an Auckland manufacturer, testing and refining the product before arriving at the finished version.
While its suitcase credentials are obvious, Pressed isn’t just for travellers. It’s the sort of product that makes sense for rushed work mornings, last-minute outfit changes, gym bags or the dress you suddenly want to wear after discovering it has been folded in a drawer for months.
To use it, hang or lay clothing flat, then lightly mist until just damp. Smooth or shake the garment, leave it to air dry briefly, and it’s ready to wear.
Pressed can be used on most everyday fabrics, including cotton, linen and blends, although patch testing is recommended for delicate materials. It isn’t recommended for silk, leather or suede.
“Pressed was created to make clothing care feel easier,” said Keach. “We wanted to bridge the gap between laundry and leaving the house. Not everyone has the time, space or patience to iron, but everyone wants to walk out the door looking put together.”
