L&P’S BIG BOTTLE CELEBRATES 50 YEARS

New Zealand’s famed landmark, Paeroa’s Big L&P Bottle is set to celebrate is 50th birthday. Proudly marking L&P’s birthplace, the bottle stands at the town’s gateway as one of New Zealand’s most recognised (and photographed) landmarks. To celebrate the big 5-0, the L&P Bottle will be adorned with a giant birthday bow, followed by a party in the Paeroa Domain for the town to enjoy this Wednesday.

Angela Broad, Coca-Cola Amatil NZ Head of Marketing explains. “L&P is lucky enough to be part of the Kiwi culture. We’re super proud of L&P’s birthplace and the much-loved Big Bottle. We’re always looking for a reason to throw a good party and what better reason than to celebrate the Big Bottle’s landmark 50th! To mark the milestone, we’re putting on a classic party in the park for the town of Paeroa.”

Unbeknownst to many, the original L&P Bottle was installed as a rocket ship in the late 1960’s as part of the Christmas theme of space travel. The following year in 1968, when the committee was planning the Christmas activities, the team were scratching their heads to come up with a theme. Seeing a bottle of L&P on the table, one member simply suggested; “what about a bottle like that?” and its safe to say, the rest is history.

To commemorate the milestone, L&P will also be releasing a range of limited edition products.
